Mauricio Rua
Mauricio "Shogun" Rua is one of the top Light Heavyweights in the world. In 2005, he won the PRIDE World Grand Prix, beating 4 fighters, two of them in the same night. His more notable wins are over Chuck Liddell (UFC 97), Mark Coleman (UFC 93), Quinton Jackson (PRIDE) and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (PRIDE). Shogun is currently ranked as one of the top ten MMA fighters in the Light Heavyweight class.
Shogun was born in Curitiba, Brazil on November 25, 1981. He began his martial arts training with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the age of six because he was getting bullied at school and on the street. At seven years of age, Shogun and his brother, Murillo “Ninja” Rua began training in Muay-Thai at the legendary Chute Boxe Academy. Shogun’s holds a record of 10-0 in Muay Thai competition. He also holds a Black Belt in Jiu Jitsu. Shogun now maintains his own training camp made up of the best MMA, Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, and Wrestling trainers in Brazil.
